5 surprising reasons why you will have great ideas over this break
Creativity is enhanced in the right conditions and this upcoming break is just what we need. Here’s some unexpected idea boosters
1) Blue & green light
Light intensity is strongest in the summertime and over the break we have greater exposure to blue skies, azure seas and green grass - than when stuck in our workplace. High intensity blue and green light stimulates serotonin production, a feelgood hormone that also aids creativity.
2) Longer showers
Ever notice that you have great ideas in the shower? Part of the reason is that the warmth on the back of your head stimulates the pineal gland which helps with creativity. Not having to rush your morning ablutions leads to longer showers and more action on the pineal gland. Sunbathing (face-down) has a similar effect.
3) Being social
Work can be an echo chamber with like-minded people. Although comforting, this can lead to group-think. Being exposed to others on holiday that have diversity of thought can create awareness of new problems to be solved and different ways to approaching solutions
4) Long walks
A long walk whether along a beach or in the bush exposes you to a different quieter environment, giving space to think without interruptions from others, nor the imperative to do things. Perfect headspace time and the endorphins generated make you feel good about it.
5) Alcohol
A relaxant when taken at the appropriate rate, alcohol can loosen those brain cells to let ideas flow. One problem can be remembering them afterwards!
Enjoy these holidays everyone, we all deserve a great break to relax, recharge and have fun.
